Consultation is supplemental education for EMDR trained professionals. It focuses on mastery of the EMDR approach to psychotherapy and integrating EMDR into your practice. Julia’s role is to help the Consultee understand the technical aspects of integrating EMDR into overall case conceptualization, treatment planning, and fine tuning EMDR skills. Consultation with CIT should not substitute for foundational psychotherapy skills. In addition, Consultation is different than Clinical Supervision. While Consultation is educational, Supervision has a much broader focus including all basic therapy skills, ethics, legalities, and development of the therapist self.
Julia received basic training through Trauma Recovery EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs. She then completed her Certification process through EMDRIA and now holds a Consultant in Training (CIT) status. As a CIT, Julia participates in consultation of consultation with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. Julia keeps abreast of current trends and changes happening with EMDR.
Consultation can be completed in both individual or group format. Professionals seeking consultation to work towards EMDRIA Certification will need to receive at least 10 hours of individual consultation out of the total of 20 hours. As a CIT, Julia can provide a total of 15 hours towards your Certification hours.
Individual Consultation is great for Clinicians who want more time to deep dive into cases to really address and fine tune the small details of their EMDR approach. Group Consultation is wonderful for those who struggle to think of questions on their own and often have "Ah-Ha" moments when others are sharing their own cases. Another benefit of Group Consultation is that it is highly structured with consistent topics to address each meeting such as, but not limited to, resourcing, assessment, choosing targets, navigating blocking beliefs and stuck points. In addition to learning about specific topics in EMDR, Consultees in both Individual and Group formats are expected to provide case presentations to assist with fine tuning their personal EMDR approach.
Julia enjoys teaching and providing consultation to all therapeutic professionals. She can support you in fine-tuning your psychosocial assessment process and learning how to accurately diagnose mental health conditions using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. If you are stuck in a case, Julia can provide confidential consultation services to help you gain new perspectives on your case and help you move forward and provide the best treatment possible.
